I took ABATE, glad I did. My insurance company requires it for those under 25.

I took the msf class 3 years ago and want to take the advanced class. I want my husband to take it with me but he doesn't think he needs it. Still trying to talk him into it.

i took the course and i was an experenced rider it was an eye opener to a lot of new things i didnt know but of course i learned to ride by the fall and get back on way lol

I am an MSF instructor and I recommend everyone take either beginner, intermediate or advanced rider courses. IF ya think you KNOW everything there is to possibly know about motorcycles your either stupid or foolish . I learn new things all the time and so can anyone else that goes into the class with an open mind.

I never took one, but I have heard a few long time riders who took the Experienced Rider Course and found they had a lot of BAD habits...lol. They said they were happy to have taken the course and would recommend everyone take some type of rider course.

One persons bad habits is another's survival technique. I do agree that everyone should take some level of the course. But then they should take what they learned and adapt it to their riding style and the type of bike that they ride. The biggest issue that I have with these types of courses is that way too many instructors in them have a do it my way or you will die attitude. Find a good course with a good instructor like our very own Purple.
Why did we do it, because we can do it better.

Finding a Great instructor is definitely the key. YOU would not believe the horror stories I hear about male instructors belittling and humiliating beginning female riders to the point of abuse making them hesitant to even attempt to pass another course if they do not succeed the first time. I once had to work with a guy like that as my team coach .Worked with him ONE DAY and I was furious enough to lock him up in the BOX we store the bikes in  I still stand by my statement it was an ACCIDENT and I didnt know he was in there when I locked him up. Hey it was just for a couple of hours  He deserved every sweaty minute he spent in there!!! I told my boss it was him or ME and I wouldnt work with such an asshole again. Guess who kept their job

I don't know what a guy like that fears so much concerning women....
Is he afraid that one might actually end up being a better rider than him?
I trained countless women to operate machinery in the GM/Delphi plants I worked at.
In truth...the women made better job setters than most of the men did.
A lot men have this macho image to uphold (or so they think)and would never admit they they didn't know shit about hand tools...
I can't tell you how many times I sent a guy to the tool crib to get left handed allen wrenches.....and the dumb shits trotted right off to find them...LOL
I only stung a couple of the ladies with that one...( I did get the girls on the metric hammer a lot though)
The women paid better attention to detail and were quicker to learn, because they didn't have all that testosterone clouding their minds....
The women would pay attention to how I did a set-up or repair, rather than stand back and looking around thinking that they'd be able to do it because they're men....and how hard could it be anyway?
I had one fast rule...
I will show you how to do the job one time....
The next time you will do the job while I assist and direct...
The third time you will do it alone...while I watch and offer help if needed....
If you didn't have it down by the 4th time...I had the option of sending you packing...
I sent more guys out than women....
You chicky babies are a pretty bright lot in general...and I am always more than happy to ride beside a lady rider that displays confidence in her abilities to ride...and shows respect for her machine....

I just know I am gonna live to regret this,but.....
I just signed my daughter and girl friend up for a basic motorcycle riding and safety course at Mott Community College, Fenton Campus....
I am buying 883 Sportster from my brother for them to ride...
Lord, I pray for a blanket of protection over the poor people that will have to share the road with these two lady riders...
It ain't easy being me
