BUSHNELL, Fla. -- Four people on motorcycles were killed in a crash in Bushnell Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened on County Roads 476 and 629 in Sumter County just before 7 p.m.
FHP said a 1991 GMC truck driven by 45-year-old Paul Sermons was passing a slower-moving truck traveling west on C.R. 476 as two motorcycles were traveling east on the same road. Sermons attempted to slow down when he realized the motorcycles were closer than he thought, FHP said, but he was unable.
Investigators said the truck struck both motorcycles, ejecting both the driver and passenger on each motorcycle. The passenger from one motorcycle was ejected into the windshield of the truck that was being passed at the time.
Three of the four motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene by Sumter County Fire Rescue. The fourth motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Several people in the trucks suffered minor injuries.
FHP said they're investigating to see whether alcohol was involved in the crash, and charges are pending. They said the crash remains under investigation and details regarding the incident are subject to change
